I plan on doing some reading on what pricing strategies work but i thought I would ask those people with experience. I'm looking for examples or the psychological information regarding pricing. An example would be that when people see a discount from $10.92 to $10.77, they think they are saving more than from $10.96 to $10.81. It's 15 cents either way but in one of them the change of 9 to 7 implies more of a discount than a change of 9 to 8.
Really ANY solid information would be great. It doesnt have to be discount oriented, either. |

This is an interesting topic as i was discussing pricing with another guy the other day.
The conclusion that we both came to was that the numbers 3 and 7 are better. As well as using cents on the end of the number is good as well. For example 93.50 or 107.30. By using 3's and 7's combined with the cents it gets people thinking that it isnt just a number that has been pulled out of no where, that it is a more calculated number and is possible done to benifit them. To go with this we both agreed also that using numbers like $99 or 9.95 though they are better then $100 or 10.00 respecfully they are not as effective as making the number appear like an odd number that has been specifcally calculated. |

I remember reading once (don't remember where) that using .79 increases sales.
The number 7 is more appealing and inplies more of a bargain, according to the study. So I wonder what would happen if one were to set prices as orion_joel indicated with the .79. For example 9.79 or 7.79. |

Public speaking works wonders to bring people to you..... Then you get to know them, and they get to know you, and your network grows and grows.
Trade shows are another avenue, but you do need to be on 100% of the time. Professional organizations are a great fast track method. Get involved with commitee work. Your name will get around. Volunteer organizations are yet another method, even sitting on a board of directors can work wonders if you can afford the time commitment. However grunt work is usually less time consuming and in many cases more effective. Harvey Mackay has some great insites as well. His books Swin with the Sharks and Dig Your Well are quite good. |
