..coming home from school, unexpected package arrival.

a big roll, wrapped in brown craft paper, containing about 20 issues. (no, not THAT, silly!)

GRIT! THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! "America's Hometown Newspaper!" READ ALL ABOUT IT!

you know, those hometown newspapers with no bad stories at all, only good 'ol fashioned farmer joe stories, how this farmer grew a big pumpkin, or how Grandma Molasses baked her tradionary cake every Thanksgiving.

yeap, those were the days...

I remember reading the ad for the first time, in a commic book..ad read something like this...

"MAKE MONEY SELLING GRIT!" and the ad showed a boy with FIVE DOLLARS in his hand! (WOW!)

as I continued reading, it said...."get 7 cents for every paper you sell!"

oh man! that was all I needed to know! but first, an important decision had to be made.. should i sacrifice my commic book and mutilate it by cutting out that coupon and mailing it? would i receive a return on my sacrificial investment? (of course, being the optimist that i am, i said, "What the heck, I'M BETTING IT ALL!)
i had found my calling! I filled out that coupon, clipped it out and mailed it as fast as you could run when a dog's a'chasin you.

and there it was......about two weeks later....

unexpected, really, as i didn't expect my shipment that fast. it was my first sales assignment!

after coming home from school, momma told me, "oh, you got something in the mail today, it's in your bedroom."

i run quickly to my room, remembering that i had ordered this stuff, my heart pounding harder and harder, as I visualize my Grit empire spanning the globe in a matter of weeks.

i opened the brown paper package (there you go again, with those dirty thoughts, you're on the wrong website, buddy!)
and WOALA! twenty issues of GRIT MAGAZINE!

momma said, "i'm fixin you dinner", and i said, "not now momma, im going to work!"

Bang! Boom! Knock, Knock here, Knock Knock there! putting in that "umph!" in "triumph, about 2 hours of intense salesmanship at it's finest!

i come home, i sold one paper. yes, a little dissapointed, but tried to forget about the day's events by reading another commic book. and there it was, on page 16, and ad for "CAPTAIN O Greeting Cards, EARN CASH AND PRIZES!" i had found my TRUE calling!!!
