Default Health Insurance etc.

I'm on the verge of giving up my "real" job with outstanding benefits because I want to be poor for the next couple years while I start a business.

The question is where does everyone get their health insurance? Someone told me the local Chamber of Commerce might help. But, how about disability insurance? I'm sure it won't be cheap, I'm just worried I won't even find the coverage.

Any thoughts will be appreciated!

I remember looking into this a few years ago, and it was recommended to me to look into professional associations and organizations that offer group insurance plans. They have enough members that they can get cheaper rates and better plans due to economies of scale, than you would get individually. Another option that I found out about was a similar program through the alumni association of my undergraduate university.

Sorry I don't have any specific recommendations, but look into the possibility of joining some sort of organization related to your field.

NASE is one. I personally found better rates at https://www.ehealthinsurance.com, but NASE had decent ins., with other bennies for the small business person.

National Association for the Self Employed....that was one of the ones I was thinking of but could not remember the name.

I actually signed up at EHeathinsurance myself. I liked the fact that I could choose my date of service and sign everything electronically.
