What are some things that you do to make it a bit more bearable? Do you daydream about the success of your own venture? Do you psychologically divorce yourself from the office culture (politics)?
Since you determined to start your own business do you find it a struggle to maintain your former level of productivity at the day job? How do you manage to work well at both on about 4 hours of sleep? |

hmmm....bashful are we? Ok I will post my little "survival" tip:
My small business revolves around jewelry retail, so I always wear one of my pieces to work and when my work environment starts stressing me out I just reach up and touch the pendant, or broach, etc., and just whisper "soon...soon". On really stressful days I must be careful not to slip into a catatonic state, staring into the numbing blue light of my computer screen, rocking back and forth, drooling as I stroke the bracelet at my wrist or the ring on my finger ......"soooooon"....."soooooon" |

I wished I could write something - but I do the internet stuff all day. I am a workaholic myself and finally figured out that I should use that to my advantage with my own businesses instead of someone else's.

I am on the fence here. Starting a new business is expensive. I knew that before I started, but the stress of not enough money coming in has gotten me to think about taking on a job while I grow my business. I am fighting with myself on this. The money coming in would be nice, but I worry if I do this then I won't have the time, or energy to build my business--which is what my dream is. I worry that if I take on an outside job and my business takes off it won't be so easy to just quit--especially if it is a professional position.
Anyone else in this type of predicament? |

It is a miraculous balancing act maintaining more than one job. If you can find a well paying part-time position, I think you would be fine. I'm currently working full time - get off at 6:00 and spend the evening attending to my real work. Saturdays and Sundays are productions days.
As much as I want to quit my 9-5, I'm staying in there because I know the statics against new businesses (my confidence and faith in myself aside). When I'm making more plus $10,000 of what I'm currently making chained to the cubicle, I will go ahead and chuck it with confiedence. Until then, well, I will be hustling. I've given myself 1-2 years to get my small business healthy and to leave the wage-slave position. Good luck on your decision... P.S. I'm impressed by your website and teh concept behind it...how long have you been at it? Have you tried Affiliate Marketing? Have you done a direct mailing to target charity minded customers? |

I tend to give 110% to any job I have, and I figured I may as well give 110% to myself rather than some big, faceless corporation! So here I am. I can't imagine trying to do both effectively. But that's just how I'm programmed LOL

Personally I hate working for other people, being bossed around, so it's a lot easier for me to work for myself.
