I am looking for a second job. I would like to come as close as possible to doubling my income. I am hoping to work on commission (a good motivator to do well).
I am seriously considering sales (I have sent a resume to Howeround). I am at a bit of a loss about what I should consider selling. This should be something that I can do in the evenings and weekends. I have no intention of leaving my job. Any suggestions? I'm sure some of you have experience, either yourself or what your spouse does, in sales. Thanks |

In most situations, I would NOT recommend sales. Here is what usually happens. You struggle to make a go of it eaning very little with an occasional success. One you get too successful, they change the deal. In addition to that, no one envies you when you are struggling, but if you get too good, you have all that petty jealousy to contend with, then they change the deal again.
That sounds cryptic, yes, and I am being very blunt because of the seriousness. The annals of good sales opportunities gone bad make a very thick book. It is not worth the risk. Too many companies are making a habit of screwing the sales people. Their inability to find good sales people will be their well deserved reward. If you want to sell, do it for yourself. Carefully seek out valid opportunities. Yes they are scarce, very scarce . Unfortunately, there are leeches who will take your ambition to succeed, twist it to their own advantage, and suck you dry. Most of the people here will agree, you need to be in business for yourself. Many here have learned first hand that what I just told you about sales is all too true. Don't be the next victim of a sales opportunity! Do your homework first. I suspect you will end up starting a business. |

will you be able to do the wholesale? I have many products such as batteries, wigs, memory foam laptop cases, memory foam camera cases, flash drives and so on. and most of the items can wholesale to somewhere like college or university. Please let me know.

This is just the insight I was looking for. Ok, I'm thinking about getting my real estate license. I will look into that.
