I think a good area to look would be derivatives like call options and puts. You can probably trade them through your stockbroker.

If an option isn't part of a broader strategy, it will probably either expire worthless on you or be worth about five times what you put into it.

why on earth would you want an investment that could be risky and profitable when there are plenty out there that are NOT risky and profitable?

Anyone who tells you this is trying to defy CAPM theory. While CAPM theory isn't perfect, it's about as real-life as the law of gravity.

You can't have massive returns without a fair amount of risk. As a short-term strategic equity investor, I do everything I can to reduce my risk, but I'll admit I'm not perfect. Still, my 50%/year returns are much higher than most HYIP investors who are honest, and I suffer about 1/100th the risk that they do.

Less than two weeks ago, I bought Apache Oil and Nasdaq. There's a record of me saying I did this here on the forum. That was when the stocks were at $70 a share and $29. The stocks had little downside; they were at historic lows and also had low P/Es while the rest of the industry was doing well. Today, they're at $75 and $31.60. Over the past two weeks, I've earned more than many HYIP investors have- and I don't have to worry about my broker running off to Rio with my money (They're bonded by the NASD).

I don't buy Rolexes on the street for $10. I don't give money to people who "crashed [their] car, had a gas leak, and need $5 for gas". If you're like me, don't deposit any amount of money in any program that claims you can get rich with low risk- even if it's just $7.

Anyone who claims to offer anything other than a mutual fund, a do-it-yourself brokerage account, a financial newsletter or a bank account- to people with less than $20K to invest is probably not a professional. There's even a good chance it's a scam.

I'd recommend staying away. Learning to turn a profit with your own money is perhaps the most valuable skill you'll learn. It may take some practice and some losses, but you'll get better.
